Many are suffering from this disease, many innocent lives are being lost just because of this disease. In fact, you may be a victim or may know a loved one who's also going through this ordeal. The question is, what is cancer? what actually cause cancer? what trauma does these victims go through? and can one prevent him/herself from getting cancer at all?
To this make simple, cancer is just an overgrowth or an abnormal growth of a particular cell in the body. Cells come together as a group to make up a tissue and it is from a group of tissues that we can get something we call "an organ," for instance, the heart, lungs, kidney, eye, liver and etc. One can be diagnosed of cancer when the cells of the body or some of these organs multiply more than it has been programmed to...
Cancer doesn't have a direct cause. Nothing actually causes cancer because it's a genetic problem. But factors such as infections, radiations, inheritance risk, obesity, alcohol intake, substance smoking, physical agent(chemical products), the use of hormonal therapy and among others can cause cells to take a wrong turn.
Cells are meant to multiply or replicate to replace the ones that die day in day out. However, there are certain proteins or mechanisms that control the multiplication process and this include the DNA repaired genes, proto-oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes. Proto- oncogenes has a duty of stimulating live healthy cells to multiply and as they multiply, tumor suppressor genes controls the growth by instructing the cells to stop producing when it has produced enough. DNA repair genes comes in when cells are in a way damaged in order to repair them. As cells are being instructed to multiply, they multiply to the required number needed and then, caused to stop multiplying and as some gets injured when performing their various activities, just like human beings, there's a nurse or a doctor (DNA repair genes) available to care for them and the process goes on and on and on.
Once an individual becomes predisposed to one or more of these factors stated above, the DNA repair genes and tumor suppressor genes becomes inactivated which provides room for more damage and alters the function of the cell to cause continues growth. Proto-oncogenes then changes to oncogenes, a protein structure that instructs cell to produce more without stopping and then boom, there is an overgrowth at the site affected which is scientifically termed as CANCER
